This week we looked at the history of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The second graders already knew a lot about MLK, so we focused in on his important words. Students used his words as inspiration to create a variety of projects. Some made paper collages of his words, others created a digital collage. Everyone created a writing piece thinking about ways to make the world a better place. I am always so humbled by the big and beautiful ideas the second graders generate. Please check out Seesaw for a voice recording of your child's work!
After our holiday break we began our measurement unit in math. Students have been working on using standard and nonstandard units and tools of measurement. They are exploring the connections between inches and feet, and feet and yards. They are also exploring the appropriate tools to use for different sized objects. Finally, students are working to understand the larger the unit of measurement, the smaller number of that unit will be needed. It has been a fun and hands-on learning unit!
