To learn the scientific method, second graders explored where a frog should be placed on a lily pad to keep dry. First, predictions were made. Next, we made models of lily pads, ponds, and frogs. Then, second graders collected and recorded data. Finally, we discussed our conclusions. Second graders overwhelming discovered a frog should hop to the middle of the lily pad, because if he hops too close to the edge he would fall in!
Today we dressed up with our favorite MN clothing to show WE LOVE MN to celebrate our visit from Miss Minnesota. Miss MN Comes to Visit...and talks about being Bully Free
In preparation for our visit from Miss Minnesota (Rachel Lanuff) we discussed how important it is to have a "Bully Free" school. After our discussion we signed a Bully Free Starts With Me Poster that all of Kennedy is signing. Check back tomorrow afternoon with photos from our visit!
Last Friday we began a Fall Leaf Project. On Friday the Second Graders drew a leaf. After drawing the leaf, they went over the outline with marker. In the different sections of the leaves crayons were used to create designs. On Monday, once the designs were finished, they water colored their leaves. The project turned out beautiful. Tomorrow we will be writing some poetry to go along with our leaf paintings.
The Hastings Fire Department came to Kennedy on Tuesday! The firefighters showed a short film about fire safety, spoke to the children about fire safety at home, and took the students outside to see a fire truck and a firefighter in full gear!
