On Monday our class was able to visit Carpenter Nature Center. We began with a class to discuss/define nature and living vs. non-living things. The discussion lead to plants and trees. The class wrapped up with a review of the life cycle of a tree. After the class we split into groups. In the groups second graders did a scavenger hunt to find all parts of a tree life cycle. Then they explored a dead log with a partner. They had to observe, draw their log, and think about what animals may have used the log/tree throughout its life. After the log, the second graders learned how to identify different types of trees. They had a relay race to identify trees. Finally, the time ended with a hike to identify trees. It was a beautiful, fun, educational day! Check out the slideshow below for pictures from each of the groups. :)
