This week in social studies we have been discussing economics. We began the unit by watching BrainPop! videos on goods and services. After watching the video we had a discussion on goods and services and did a sorting activity. Next, we read the book The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Money. This prompted a discussion on spending and saving. The second graders then working to earn money for doing their classroom jobs. Today was payday. :) After the second graders were paid, they needed to pay me rent and taxes. They were also required to put some money into savings. After that they were able to spend their money in the Mitchell Holiday Market. The second graders had fun learning about saving, spending, supply and demand, and the (sometimes difficult) choices of economics.
