In our Problems and Investigations in math this week the second graders learned about measurement. All activities centered around the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Second graders measured giant "beans" with unifix cubes. The next day, the students measured the perimeter of "garden beds" for planing their beans with unifix cubes. It was a great hands-on experience. Our math work places focused on subtraction.
We were fortunate enough to have visitors from Miller Orthodontics visit 2nd grade on Monday. The second graders learned about the importance of brushing teeth, flossing, and limiting sugar.
This week the second graders recorded text to self connections in their reading response notebooks. The second graders had to cite a page they made a connection with, and then describe their connections on paper. We used the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day as our mentor text.
