We had a lesson this week on using kind words. We reread the story Chrysanthemum. This time as the second graders heard the story they took turns crumpling a paper heart each time they heard someone be unkind in the story. But the time we finished the book, our heart was ripped. We talked about how when others use kind words it hurts our hearts. Then we passed the heart around and each said something kind. As we said something kind we smoothed the heart and put a band-aid on. After we fixed the heart up we talked about how even though we said something nice, we can't take the words back we have said.
