For example: Target sum is 13. A student could do 6+7. Or a student could use more cards to make the target sum. 1 + 5 + 3 + 4 = 13.
We played a new math game for workplaces last week called "Make the Sum". This game could be easily modified and played at home with a regular deck of cards. Students pick a target sum from 5-15. Then each player takes turns flipping over a card. If a student can make the target some with any of the cards he or she takes all of the cards to make that sum. Keep playing until all the cards possible have been used. The player with the most cards wins. For example: Target sum is 13. A student could do 6+7. Or a student could use more cards to make the target sum. 1 + 5 + 3 + 4 = 13.
